The annual TuksVolleyball High School Tournament has become a highlight for school volleyball in Gauteng during the last few years. On Saturday 15 September 2018, 48 teams gathered at the University of Pretoria’s Groenkloof campus for a day of volleyball.

In addition to the 3 indoor courts, 17 temporary courts were set up on the grass field. The teams played in u14, u16 and u19 categories. Matches were played to best of 3 sets (up to 21 points in the round robin, and up to 25 points in knock-out rounds, third set up to 15), to maximise the play time for every team.

Players and coaches of TuksVolleyball run this tournament to promote the game on school level. Besides reffing the games, they also share their enthusiasm for volleyball and identify young talent.

After a long day of volleyball, the American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ) dominated the awards ceremony with some outstanding results.

As TuksVolleyball chairperson, Tawnay Gierke, said at the awards ceremony, a lot of work and many hours of preparation go into organising a day like this, and at the end everybody is thoroughly exhausted – but looking back at the photos of the smiling faces afterwards always reminds us why we put in the effort and motivates us to do it again the next year.
